In May Ayni, we were impressed to see so many strong and healthy looking cattle walking around. We asked Berhane Hailu, age 17 about how the water access had improved her life, and her cattle's.
“I used to climb 300 metres to the upstream source that was unprotected. It was heavy and difficult to carry the jerry can a long distance. I did have some abdominal disturbance using the unprotected water source but now I do not have that kind of feeling. The main advantage is having clean water at a short distance and our animals can also use the clean water as our animals were suffering from leeches.”
Animals are very important to the villagers livelihoods so it is vital that they are kept healthy too. The cattle in May Ayni were shining examples of healthy cattle and seemed very happy with their drinking trough!
