A very early start to catch the plane to Mekele – but the scenery on the flight over more than made up for it.
Sampled the local injera dish for lunch before going onto meet the team at the EOC (Ethiopian Orthodox Church) at their offices. We were served traditional bread, popcorn and coffee which their secretary made for us – our first coffee ceremony. EOC have been working with WaterAid for a number of years so could explain the difference they have already made to the region. Our funding will go directly to support the projects they implement in Hintalo Wajerat, some of which have started and some which are brand new. It’s really starting to hit me that tomorrow we’ll be starting our project visits and with all the meetings over I just can’t wait to get out there.
Just been for dinner – and realised that we’re going to be incommunicado for the next few days. The internet lines are down everywhere and even the Vodafone cards aren’t working. Serge is supposed to be writing a daily blog for a Belgian newspaper, but we decide that it all adds to the adventure if he has to wait until we’re back in Addis for his next entry!
